I just called to see if a house was still available and spoke with Laurie. She said that they only work Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, no Saturday/Sunday (even though their hours on Yelp say 9-6pm). This is inconvenient for people who work Monday through Friday 9-5pm. If you are a buyer/renter be prepared not to deviate from this limited showing schedule. If you are a seller, be prepared that you might be losing strong tenants due to the showing schedule.

Maybe that is why this property is still available, and has been posted on Zillow for 52 days and counting...

I will try to give an honest review of pros and cons of Bay Area Real Estate. Overall, they are a good alternative to apartment complexes, but with some hitches.

    Pros:
-Very responsive and polite with communication.

-The place I rented was nicer than what I would have gotten from an apartment complex for the price.

    -Very flexible with modifying leases.

    Cons:
-maintenance requires a deductible per repair. So if the water heater/air conditioner/dishwasher needs any repairs, expect to pay some amount per repair.

-A one month deposit is required, and getting the deposit back is slow.

-Expect multiple charges, some real, some not, when you finally do get the deposit back. I think this might be because the move-out inspector is also the one who is paid for any deductions of the deposit. For me, I was charged $150 for "general cleaning" (place was clean and did not need $150 worth of touching up) and $40 to remove a couch, even though they didn't remove a couch. Bay Area would not budge on this non-couch removal.

In summary, with the above cons in mind, if you want to try renting a home that is NOT an apartment, I would recommend giving Bay Area a try.
